My Name is Vic Farr and I have been an Amateur Radio operator since April, 1957.
My primary interest is Ham Radio, and, since retiring in February, 1998, I have spent considerable time on my antenna farm. I now have a G5RV dipole, in an inverted-V configuration, for the low bands, a 3-element tri-band beam, a 10-meter vertical, and two 2-meter vertical antennas. None of them are as high as I would like, but I don't think they ever are. I have a Kenwood TS450S H.F. rig with a home-brew 3-500 linear. I use an Icom IC-28H on 2-meters, both in the shack and as my mobile rig, using a 5/8 wave mag-mount antenna.
My next, and almost equal, interest is computers. I have been working with computers, associated with my job, since 1972, mostly on the software side. My first home computer was a Radio Shack TRS-80, Model I with 4K of RAM. I stayed with Radio Shack through their model 1000 before finally getting a 286 machine about 10 years ago. I presently have an old (in computer years) 233MHz Pentium II, which does all I need to do.
Last, after retiring and moving out of town with a little bit of property, I have let my wife talk me into raising chickens and goats. It sounded fairly relaxing until I began to notice how much time and effort was required to keep them fed, watered, and to keep watch on the other animals that would like to eat them, especially the chickens. We have some wandering dogs and cats, and we also have a pair of red-tailed hawks that I have to keep a watch out for. All in all, though, it's lots of fun.
